Reflections on Great Leaders

A person of good character looks like a person with an approachable look, carries him or herself very well and has good manners. To become a person of character, one must first be responsible and have good manners and self judgment. They must also be honest and polite so as not to ruin their image. Others say that my character is helpful and hardworking at times but playful and childish at other times. I would like to become more polite and well mannered as sometimes i tend to do something wrong and embarrass myself.

Communications

1 Why is communication important?

Communication is important because without it, we cannot tell tell others what we are trying to tell them.

2 What is/are your favourite form/s of communication? Why?

My favourite form of communication is face to face because I can tell the person’s feelings through their facial expressions, voice and body language. That way i know when I am talking too much and stop to prevent the person from getting bored.

3 How do you decide which form of communication to use in a situation?

I decide which form of communication to use by seeing if the other person can be seen. If that person can be seen, most likely i will be able t communicate with him or her. If that person cannot be seen, I will use non-verbal communication such as SMS or MSN to converse with him or her.

4 What difficulties do you face in communicating with others?

I do not face any difficulties when communicating with someone face to face but when i am communicating with someone non-verbally, i cannot tell how they are feeling as they might hide their feelings. Sometimes, I cannot explain to someone what i want to tell him as i cannot show him what i mean.

Orientation Camp Reflections

What are the three main points (or more) that you had learnt from all the activities?
1. I learnt that our class is like a machine, each individual is like a gear. All it takes for the machine to break down is for one of the gears to fail. This shows that each individual is important and has his or her role to play.
2. We should stop complaining when we are doing chores for other people because on the the other hand, someone else is also doing chores for us.
3. We should participate in all activities even though it may seem tedious or difficult because you might still learn from the experience.
All these pointers can be useful when we are doing work in class.

If you have to have another chance to try all the activities, which one will you choose? Why?
I will try the rock wall again because I did not make it as high as i wanted to go to so I would like another chance to try again.

If there is one thing you would like to change about yourself, what would that be?
I would like to change how picky i am with food. At the camp, the food was not to my liking but I had no choice but to eat it because if i did not, i would go hungry. This has thought me how privileged i am with good food like McDonalds to eat.

Amazing Race Personal Reflections

I understand that one of the school values, 'Expanding Our Learning Network', means that to learn more, we might have to think out of the box, and this, in a way, will let us expand our knowledge. At SST we are independent learners. This means that we will have to keep expanding our knowledge to keep up with studies and work. We can also learn from our mistakes and other fellow student's successes. That is why expanding our learning network is is important.

Team Building Challenge

To me, the school's value, 'forging excellence', means to use whatever you have and whatever it takes to achieve success in something that we do and no one can help us achieve this except ourselves. Although i do not have many strengths to help me achieve excellence, i try my best to use them to my advantage. The attributes that are needed to excel is taking initiative and an open mind. Taking initiative will help your team members decrease the amount of work they need to do and thinking of ideas to aid the project. I can contribute ideas that i think of during brainstorming, helping the team take things they need for the project and helping those who have a lot of work to do.

Bridge building activity personal reflections

Firstly I would like to say that i had a lot of fun building a bridge with my new classmates! I find working as a team has its pros and cons. For example, working together can result in faster completion of a project because everyone is doing their part by building or contributing to the project. However, working together may lead to different points of views from team members, resulting in arguments that may disband the team. I found it very exciting to interact with my team as everyone was enthusiastic about building the bridge. In the midst of building the bridge, i found out that i tend to make mistakes when I'm putting things together. Therefore, I am better off helping the team brainstorm on ideas and writing a short writeup on what our project is about. I was a little nervous about joining my team at first because I was afraid that we would not get along well with each other or have different points of view. Even though we did have different points of view, my team managed to overcome it and decide on one concept on how to build the bridge.
